My Experience at the Career Center
Every student has at least heard of the career center before, but have many of them actually paid them a visit? I guarantee you most have not, in fact, I have asked my own friends and none of them have even tried to give the career center a visit! Well my friends, today I will tell you about the day I visited the career center, what they provide for students, and how they helped me.
My main goal with the visit was to discuss with a professional about internships and possibilities for me in the future. I had done some research on the USF website and found a page that showed all faculty by campus who were conducting research on the school (which is very informative and I will link it here for anyone who would like to visit it as well). As I told the advisor Rita Zwiefel, I was looking for research and lab positions, and she immediately showed me another great website for resources powered by Eckerd with research opportunities from all over the state (I couldn't find the link to share here unfortunately).
Overall, Rita was incredibly sweet and very knowledgeable of different ways to get involved in your field of study. She showed me how to write emails to professors conducting research and I have already sent 5 of them! I would say this visit was a success.
That's not all, however. The career center has a large variety of resources for students and can help even with the smallest things that can impact your future a great ton. Some of their resources include but are not limited to self-assessments, exploring occupations, mentorship programs, resume and cover letter review and writing, matching a career to a major, graduate school research, and more! They even have a closet on campus full of business clothes for you to borrow and look professional for meetings and events, which by the way, they also do professional headshots.
I know it's a lot of information, but I can show you how to navigate a bit of their website and schedule appointments with them. And even if you don't have any urgent inquiries, a short stop to get to know them or maybe reviewing your resume can help both you and the campus.
There is a lot of information, but on the right side and scrolling down you can also see the upcoming events and various resources for students.
On the top of the homepage, there are many drop-down menus that show different options and resources that the career center offers.
One of them is called "ONEUSF" where you can select your campus and find specific resources for each campus.
