Spring 2024 Major Events
Love on the Lawn is an annual event hosted here on the St. Pete campus celebrating Valentine's Day! This year, we as Dean of Students (DOS) Ambassadors partnered with the Wellness Center and H.E.A.T. to contribute to this wonderful event! Our goal was to spread self-love; after all, Valentine's Day is not just about romantic love, but platonic love, and who is a better person to love than yourself?
We know a lot of people rarely hear that they are enough and that they matter, so we made it our mission this Valentine's Day to spread love and kindness towards ourselves.
For Love on the Lawn, we helped the Wellness Center and H.E.A.T. manage their tie-dye event, which was a huge hit. The shirts this year read "Everyone is Love-a-bull" which we thought was brilliant! Our table of goodies was also bustling; we shared nearly all of our resources just an hour and a half after the start of the event, which surprised us! We designed and created numerous self-love buttons and bookmarks, and we were so happy to see so many people enjoying them! We also made a box-of-love, as we liked to call it, where people were given the opportunity to share something they love. Be on the lookout for the responses people shared--we plan to display them around our office in the SLC!
Our purpose, however, wasn't just to share love, but also to share useful resources that promote mental health! We made over 400 self-care tips cards, each a different color to represent different categories such as physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and other kinds of self-care! We utilized multiple resources from the Wellness Center, including a card with three different QR codes for three FREE apps to support mental health! I will link them in this post for anyone interested as well! Not only are they totally FREE of charge for USF students, but they are fully online and mostly anonymous! Who doesn't love free therapy?
Overall, the event was a great success, and I am really proud of our whole team for all our effort! All the days we spent printing and cutting out bookmarks and cards, creating paper flowers in various designs, they were all worth it!
If you went to the event, leave a comment! Let us know what you loved most!
Resources:
The Wellness Center has been very supportive of us and has provided the DOS Ambassadors with amazing opportunities, like our participation with them in Safety Day last Wednesday! They allowed us to share our resources, as well as some (waterproof!) goodie bags with wallets, drink covers, drink testers, keychains that prevent your keys from sinking into the harbor, and more! We were also able to walk around and see what other organizations provided for Safety Day, including the University Police Department and their helpful CPR doll, as well as the Fire Department and their fire-extinguishing demonstration, which was phenomenal!
Overall, this semester has already been amazing for us. I can't wait for everyone to see and participate in the events we have for March focusing on caffeine awareness and women's history month!
We hope to catch you all at the next one! Don't forget to stay healthy in all that you do, and don't forget to follow us on:
